Forgotten Refugees on Sunday, May 18th at Shabbat and Brown Bag Torah Study are both going strong, and the B’nai Torah Book Club has already held three meetings. Both Torah Study groups, led by Rabbi Heilman offer an opportunity to delve into the meaning of Torah, line-by-line and word-by-word. The full schedule is available below. The Book Club meets at least three times per year to discuss a contemporary work. (See below for information about the next meeting.) We guarantee a lively and interesting discussion. All three groups are open (and free) to all! Registration is NOT necessary.
B’nai Torah Book Club Our book club has already read The Yiddish Policemen’s Union by Michael Chabon, The Ministry of Special Cases, written by Nathan Englander, and People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks so far this year. The discussions were lively and provided the opportunity for varying points of view and perspectives. If you haven’t yet read any of these, you may want to make the time for these novels that discuss what happens when Jewish communities fall apart and difficult personal decisions need to be made. Our final book club selection will be The Book Thief, written by Markus Zusak. The
Book Thief This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul. (Barnes and Noble synopsis) The date for discussing The Book Thief is scheduled for June 1, 2008 at 10:00 am in the B’nai Torah library. Hope to see you then.
B'nai Torah members only may register for classes directly by using the convenient Online Registration Form which follows. Non-members should contact the temple office at 978-443-2082. All programs are free for temple members unless otherwise noted. Non-members pay a nominal fee.
** ONGOING ** Brown Bag Torah Study, a weekly session in which the weekly Torah portion (Parashat Hashavua) will be studied, meets on Tuesdays at Noon. Students will become familiar with the ongoing unfolding of the Torah's story lines, major themes, concepts and commandments. No previous experience in Torah Study is necessary. This class is open to the entire community, members of Congregation B'nai Torah as well as non-members, Jews as well as non-Jews. Come share in the simple pleasures of food, camaraderie and ongoing learning as we explore the wisdom and insight that the Torah has to offer to our own, often too-complex, lives. Bring your own lunch; the Rabbi will provide coffee and tea. This is a great option for those whose schedules allow for a weekday learning session.
BROWN BAG TORAH STUDY on Thursdays @ 12:15: This Study Group will meet each week at the above time. Subscribe to B'nai Torah's separate "Torah Study E-List" to
