JACQUELINE BREINES
Cantorial Soloist
Jacqueline is in her twelfth year working as a Cantorial Soloist, and is currently serving her eighth year as Cantorial Soloist for Congregation B’nai Torah.
Raised on a small farm in rural Lebanon, NJ, Jacqueline attended Westminster Choir College Vocal Camp as a teen, and sang and performed throughout her youth. Although the nearest Reform congregation was half an hour from her home, Jacqueline was formally educated through Confirmation. After graduating from The Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Business, Jacqueline came to the Boston area to attend Boston University School of Law, where writing, directing, choreographing and performing in the musical satire "Legal Follies" kept her sane while studying law.
Jacqueline has performed as a regular soloist and member of The Zamir Chorale of Boston. In the summer of 1999, the chorale embarked on a 30th anniversary tour of Eastern Europe. The group’s mission was to bring Jewish choral music back to the places where it began but had not been heard since the Holocaust.
The tour group was accompanied by a documentary film crew, and Jacqueline is featured as a soloist in the resulting documentary, "Zamir: Jewish Voices Return to Poland." The film aired nationwide on PBS. Jacqueline is also featured as a soloist on the Zamir CD "The Songs Live On," a live concert recording of this centenary tour, and on other Zamir recordings.
Jacqueline leads all Shabbat and holiday prayer services at B’nai Torah, tutors the synagogue’s youngsters in preparation for their B’nai Mitzvah, directs the adult choir and the annual Purimspiel, and manages all aspects of the B’nai Mitzvah program.
In addition to her work here at B’nai Torah, Jacqueline is kept busy by her three sons - Shea, age 16, Sandy, age 15, and David, age 13.
Jacqueline currently serves as an officer of the Women Cantors’ Network. www.womencantors.net
