We're On Top of the AAA Division!

The CBT/Red Lox conglomerate fell short of a perfect regular season, splitting our regular season-ending double header today against a bunch of guys from Belmont and Newton to finish 7-1 and first in the AAA division. We took the opener over Belmont, 11-6 as Connor went 3-for-3 with a homer and double, Red Lox cavalry member Pete Hamilton was 2-for-3 with a homer, other Red Lox cavalry member Jon Leibeskind had a pair of hits and a walk, and I had three hits, including a triple. Tom Reith played great behind the plate, catching two pop ups in the first and rapping a couple of hits himself. Mark Weiss added two hits and Eric G. walked twice and singled. Eric P. doubled and played his usual adept first base, while Jay pitched well. Steve G was solid at second.

In the second game against Newton,  we left the bases loaded twice and kept finding ways to hit the ball hard right at people. As a result, we were chasing them the whole game and wound up on the wrong end of a 16-10 score. Eric P. had three hits including a double, as did Jon L. Connor homered and tripled, Eric G. had a pair of doubles, and Pete and Ray each had two hits. Unfortunately, Ray also suffered a minor injury. I walked twice and Steve and Jay drew key walks in the sixth, when we showed signs of rallying. Defensively, Eric made a stellar running catch in right center, Steve made a great play at second, and Connor and Eric ran down several hard hit balls in the outfield. We scored four in the bottom of the seventh to make it a little closer, but, In the end, we had nothing left in the tank.

Next up: the playoffs at some time in the future, to be negotiated between us and whomever finished fourth in the division. Hopefully Jeff will be back by then.
