With the Nov. 3 deadline for voting now upon us, what do the polls really tell us? Can they be trusted? What seem to be the most likely, least likely and barely plausible Electoral College scenarios? What happens if there is an Electoral College tie? Will fears of post-election chaos come to pass?

Bob Salsberg spent more than 40 years as a Boston-based journalist for media outlets including The Associated Press, WBZ, WBUR, WEEI, the Boston Phoenix and Capitol News Service. He served two stints during his career as a political and state government reporter and has considerable experience in covering campaigns and election returns. He also served for more than a decade on the board of directors _ including two years as chairman _ of the Radio-Television News Directors Association, one of North America's largest journalism trade organizations.
