Living Jewish Life on Jewish Time

Yom Kippur Afternoon: Zoom with us to Jerusalem!

What is "Jewish time?" What meaning does time give to our observance of Jewish holidays throughout the year? Why is Jerusalem known as the center of Jewish time and Jewish space?

Join us for a meaningful afternoon tour of Jerusalem as Jews in the Holy City prepare for a Holy Day. Together with our professional Israeli Tour Guide, Shira Kleinman, we will explore the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of Jerusalem's bustling shuk (market) before the holiday begins, and watch as it transitions to a quiet street as sundown arrives. “Walk” through the alleyways of the Old City and explore how our most Holy Days are marked and remembered in this Jerusalem now and in the past. Looking forward to discovering reflective time together in such a spiritual place.

You only need to bring a smile and positive energy! The "tour" will begin at 2:00 pm and will conclude around 3:00 pm or slightly later.

How to Join

The Zoom link is available in the Weekly Bulletin, and will also be emailed in advance to all members, and to non-members who pre-registered to attend our High Holy Day services. Non-members who have not yet pre-registered may do so by clicking here.

About Our Guide

Tour guide Shira Kleinman is the owner and operator of Tour with Shira Israel Experiences. Growing up in a proud Reform Jewish household in America, she often found herself in Israel and eventually decided to make it her home.  She first fell in love with guiding after teaching Jewish History at the Heller High School in Israel for six years. "Even in these challenging times as we feel so far from one another, we have a unique opportunity to make places that are far away seem closer", shares Shira.

She adds, "I am eager to be a part of your communal Yom Kippur afternoon experience and to share a bit of Israel with you. There will be something for everyone...those who have never visited Israel and those who have been many times. Aside from guiding, I love food and cooking (just not on Yom Kippur!), running, and exploring new places in Israel. I currently live in Haifa with my husband and look forward to sharing my home with you when you are in Israel the next time."
