Guided Meditation

My family and I are recent members, but we are enjoying our time with this congregation so very much. I don’t know many of you yet, but my husband Jason and I live in Maynard and have two children, Jack (in 6th grade) and Sadie (3rd grade ). I am a scientist by day and a meditation teacher. I teach a specific kind of meditation, known as Yoga Nidra, at a studio called Be the Love Yoga + Wellness in Maynard. There is so much fear and emotion in the air and all of us are trying to navigate new circumstances and worries. I am hoping to offer myself as a resource if you would like more info and support about how to develop a meditation practice.

You don’t need to have any experience to practice this type of meditation, just a desire to rest and restore. If you can take a half hour—this is a super fix.

Yoga Nidra, also known as the practice of yogic or dynamic sleep, is a guided meditation that allows us to reach a profound state of relaxation. The sequence of the meditation guides you to a powerful threshold where your body sleeps and your mind remains aware. Yoga Nidra helps us turn off the "fight or flight" response and awaken the "rest-digest" response of our nervous system, giving our bodies the rest we can rarely access right now. This practice can be a powerful tool to combat lack of sleep/insomnia, chronic stress or illness, and several other physical/emotional imbalances.

Bonus — a half hour practice is said to be the equivalent of 2-3 hours of sleep.

As someone who practices every day, I can attest to the many benefits of this practice. I usually practice to fall asleep every night, but if you are feeling sluggish mid-day it can also be a great boost for the rest of the day.

Each meditation ends with a journey of sorts. Please take yourself on this journey, and do something for yourselves right now.
