Birth and Naming
Birth and Naming
“The world is sustained by the breath of children.” ~ Talmud, Shabbat 119b
At B’nai Torah, the birth of a baby is a reason for celebration! Not just for the baby’s parents, grandparents, but for the entire congregational family. We believe that the discussions, decisions and ceremonies around a child’s birth or adoption are the first steps in creating a positive Jewish identity for the child as well as the immediate and extended family. We offer a variety of options around birth and naming ceremonies: at home, at the synagogue, at the hospital. We take an egalitarian approach to baby naming ceremonies, and we make certain that celebrations are inclusive of all family members. There are also a myriad of rituals and resources available for those experiencing infertility, miscarriages, and for those facing difficult pre-natal and neo-natal parenting challenges.
